Refunds, Terms & Conditions

NESIFS | Refunds Policy, Terms & Conditions

Registration Modification Policy: Non-cancellation modifications to registrations may be requested by emailing info@nesifs.com no less than 20 days prior to The New England Seminar in Forensic Sciences (“Conference”). Where modifications decrease the total amount paid by the Registrant, the Registrant may be refunded no more than 75% of the original amount paid. Modification requests made less than 20 days prior to the Conference may not be permitted and will not be refunded.

Registration Cancelation and Refund Policy: Registrants may cancel their registration by emailing info@nesifs.com. A fee of $50/Registrant will be withheld from all refunds to cover the administrative costs and transaction fees. Registrations canceled 60 days or more prior to the Conference will be entitled to a refund of 100% of the original amount paid, less the cancelation fee. Registrations canceled less than 60 days prior to the Conference will be entitled to a refund of 75% of the original amount paid, less the cancelation fee. Registrations canceled less than 20 days prior to the Conference will not be refunded. No refunds will be given for Registrants who do not cancel their registration, regardless of Conference attendance.

Additional Fees: Registrants who stay on the University of New England (“University”) campus or eat in the dining hall will be responsible for returning their dorm keys and swipe cards. A fee of $50 per key and $25 per swipe card will be assessed after the Conference for unreturned keys and cards. These fees may be charged to the credit card on file.


Registrant shall be responsible for all damages and losses beyond normal wear to buildings, facilities, equipment, furniture, etc. owned by or part of the University’s campus, property, grounds, etc., and will be assessed accordingly. The assessment of the cost of repairs or replacements for any such loss or damage shall be determined by the University.


Any charges assessed by the University for any purpose, including any fines and parking fees or tickets, will be passed on to the Registrants identified as being responsible for these damages/losses, and these fees may be charged to the credit card on file.

University Rules and Policies: Registrants are required to follow all University rules and policies while attending the Conference, including, but not limited to the following:


The University is a tobacco and smoke-free campus. Smoking of tobacco or other substances and use of all tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes are not permitted anywhere or anytime on University campuses. Registrant will be subject to whatever remedies are available to the University and the Summit Conference Solutions, LLC (“Summit”) up to and including exclusion from University property.


Alcoholic beverages served at the Conference will be confined to the room in which the Conference is conducted, and will not be carried or consumed beyond that area. The Registrant will observe all laws in the State of Maine pertaining to alcoholic beverages. The Registrant shall indemnify and hold harmless the University from and against any and all Damages incurred by the University that arise out of, relate to, or result from the Registrant’s service of alcoholic beverages at the Conference, or are incurred as a result of the Conference, including but not limited to persons attending the Conference damaging property or injuring any person.


Waiver, Release, and Indemnification

The Registrant shall indemnify and hold harmless Summit, its employees, staff and contractors, and the University, its Trustees, directors, officers, staff, employees, agents, servants and students (each, an “Indemnified Party”) from and against any and all losses, liabilities, claims, suits, actions, causes of action, damages, costs and expenses (including, without limitation, reasonable attorney’s fees and disbursements) as incurred (collectively, “Damages”), relating to, arising out of, or resulting from the Conference, including, but not limited to, claims for personal injury, death, professional liability, property damage or other entitlement.

The Registrant agrees that in consideration of under-age Registrants or guests of Registrants (under eighteen (18) years of age) being present on any part of the University campus, the Registrant agrees that it shall indemnify and hold the Indemnified Parties harmless from and against any and all Damages for injury to the under-age participant or any other persons, including injury resulting in death, and damage to property arising out of or in connection with the under-age person being on the property of the University, including with respect to claims and demands alleging negligent or other acts or omissions of Summit, its employees and staff, or the University, its agents, servants, employees, contractors, subcontractors and students.

REGISTRANT HEREBY RELEASES, WAIVES AND RELINQUISHES ANY AND ALL CLAIMS, ACTIONS, AND/OR CAUSES OF ACTION REGISTRANT MAY HAVE OR HEREAFTER ACQUIRE AGAINST SUMMIT, ITS EMPLOYEES AND STAFF, OR THE UNIVERSITY, ITS DIRECTORS, OFFICERS, ADMINISTRATORS, EMPLOYEES, AND AGENTS, FOR DEATH OR ANY INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE OR OTHER DAMAGE, LOSS OR LIABILITY, WHICH MAY RESULT FROM, ARISE IN CONNECTION WITH, OR RELATE IN ANY MANNER TO THE CONFERENCE OR REGISTRANT’S PRESENCE ON THE UNIVERSITY’S CAMPUS, PROPERTY OR GROUNDS.

IN NO EVENT SHALL SUMMIT OR THE UNIVERSITY BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES OR LOSS OF ANY KIND, INCLUDING, WITHOUT LIMITATION, DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, PUNITIVE, EXEMPLARY, CONSEQUENTIAL OR ANY OTHER DAMAGES ARISING OUT OF OR IN ANY MANNER CONNECTED WITH THE CONFERENCE, REGARDLESS OF THE FORM OF ACTION AND WHETHER OR NOT SUMMIT OR THE UNIVERSITY HAS BEEN INFORMED OF, OR OTHERWISE MIGHT HAVE ANTICIPATED, THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. IF, NOTWITHSTANDING THE PRECEDING SENTENCE, SUMMIT OR THE UNIVERSITY IS FOUND LIABLE FOR ANY LOSS OR DAMAGE RELATING TO THIS AGREEMENT OR THE SUBJECT MATTER HEREOF, REGISTRANT AGREES THAT THE CUMULATIVE LIABILITY  SHALL IN NO EVENT EXCEED THE AMOUNTS ACTUALLY PAID BY REGISTRANT IN CONNECTION WITH THE CONFERENCE.

Neither Summit nor the University shall accept responsibility for theft or other loss of money, valuables, or personal effects of participants in the Conference or members of the staff of the Registrant.

Summit reserves the right to cancel the registration of any Registrant who violates any policy of the University or of Summit, or whose behavior is deemed to be inappropriate, as determined by Summit, at any time, whether before or after the commencement of the Conference. In the event that a Registrant’s registration is canceled or terminated pursuant to this clause, the Registrant must leave the University campus and any event site. The Registrant will be entitled to a refund of 100% of the original amount paid, less the cancelation fee.
